The We Care Arts Evening at the Races derby party, held recently, was a spectacular celebration of creativity, community, and compassion, marking a significant milestone in its journey to support individuals with disabilities through the transformative power of art. As guests arrived, the air was electric with excitement, anticipation, and the spirit of generosity that defines the essence of We Care Arts.
The event was meticulously orchestrated to immerse attendees in the thrilling ambiance of a derby party, with an array of activities and attractions that captivated everyone’s interest. From the exciting races to raffles and auctions of custom designed piggy banks, every moment was a testament to the power of community and the shared commitment to making a difference.
Beyond the festivities, the heart of the Evening at the Races was its profound impact on the lives of those We Care Arts serves. The event not only raised vital funds to support their programs but also heightened awareness of the importance of arts in healing and personal development. Participants’ stories and artwork showcased throughout the evening reminded everyone of the transformative effect of creativity and the sense of pride and accomplishment it can foster. As the night concluded, it was clear that the success of the derby party extended far beyond the financial contributions; it reinforced a community’s commitment to inclusion, empowerment, and the belief that through creativity, we can change lives.

From all of us at We Care Arts, we want to say thank you to everyone who attended Evening at the Races, presented by Treality! A special thank you to all the sponsors, volunteers, committee members, and individuals that made the event such a success!
Evening at the Races “by the numbers”: We had 193 people (not including volunteers) at the event which was an increase of 62% from last year. We raised over $15,000 in net proceeds from the event, which is an increase of 76% from last year. To put the $15,000 raised into something that is tangible, your support enables us to provide a year of programming for 10 individual artist-clients for a year! A special thank you to our presenting sponsor, Treality, and to the Dorwood Optimist for their continued support. We are happy that the Dorwood Stakes will be a part of our event in honor of that longstanding support for We Care Arts and the dedication of the Labatzky’s in running this event for so many years.

We sold out the race sponsorships and the horses this year, so if you want to get an early reservation (no need to pay), we can add you to the contact list when we start the planning of this event in January! Just email rwillits@wecarearts.org and he will put you into the 2025 file! We also believe that we will need more volunteers and committee members as our event grows, so let us know if you want to get involved as a volunteer!
