October Harvest: Celebrating This Month's Most Impactful Grant Awards

Kelli Campbell • October 4, 2024

October has been an exciting month for We Care Arts, as the organization received several generous grant awards that will significantly impact its programs and facilities. These grants have enabled We Care Arts to continue its mission of fostering creativity and community among individuals with developmental disabilities, substance abuse disorders and mental health diagnoses.

One of the major highlights of this month’s funding came from the Spirit Chain competition, a longstanding tradition of Centerville High School. This year, the incredible CHS students, with the support of their families, friends, staff, and the wider community, raised an astonishing $131,140. This effort was part of a friendly rivalry with Fairmont, which raised an impressive $98,166. Collectively, these students have raised over $2.8 million for various charities over the past four decades.

We Care Arts was one of the five charities supported by CHS students, receiving a generous portion of $26,228. This contribution was instrumental in addressing much-needed roof repairs, ensuring that our facilities are safe and welcoming for all participants. The repair project was further supported by The Dayton Foundation Grant, which awarded us $15,000 for the same purpose.

Thanks to these funds, we can continue providing a safe and inspiring space for our artists and community members.

Moreover, the Thomas B. Fordham Foundation granted $10,000 to support our Transition to Work (TTW) program, specifically for Dayton Area Charter Schools. In addition, the East Dayton Optimist Club contributed $500 towards the TTW program at Belmont High School. This generous support helps us extend our reach and provide valuable resources to more students.

These grants are a testament to the community's commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities and enhancing their quality of life through creative expression and skill development. We are incredibly grateful to all our donors and partners for their unwavering support.

As we look forward to the coming months, We Care Arts is excited to continue growing and expanding our programs, thanks to the generosity of organizations and individuals who believe in our mission. Together, we are making a difference, one grant at a time. Thank you for helping us create a brighter future for our community!
