January: Letter From The Executive Director

ACTION ITEM: Committee Volunteers Needed 

Happy 2024, We Care Arts Friends! 

As the fresh canvas of a new year awaits our creative input, I’m reminded of the incredible impact each of you has had on our mission. As you know, an integral element of our success is our advocates and volunteers. In other words, YOU! It is your dedication, passion, and commitment which are the driving force behind every brushstroke, every event, and every smile we bring to our artist-clients’ faces. 

Research on the Independent Sector’s website reports that in Ohio the value of YOUR TIME as a volunteer is $29.17/hr with a measurable Return on Investment (ROI). However, it is so much more than that as our advocates are our community voice amplifying our mission across their social networks and our volunteers are the heartbeat of our cause infusing our programs with their passion, expertise, and boundless energy. It is the volunteers like Karyn in our classrooms and Kaila on our event committees that truly are the keys to our success. Their gifts of time, continuity, encouragement, and just plain rolling up their sleeves to get the work down are what makes all the difference throughout the year. 

Along with the amazing impact that our volunteers have in our community, research suggests that volunteering isn’t just about giving back. Engaging in community service has been proven to enhance the mental health and happiness of the volunteers themselves. So, is it any surprise that I am urging you to help us to help YOU in this New Years’ Resolution season. Quite simply 

We need 3-5 event volunteers  
for each of our event committees this year.

Your involvement not only assists us in raising vital funds but also expands our outreach, strengthening our impact within the community. So, let’s keep working together to paint a vibrant future together—one where art and community intersect to create lasting change.  

Your involvement is not just appreciated; it’s transformative.

We believe in the healing power of creating and producing art that transforms physical, developmental, and mental challenges into a future rich with possibilities. We’re guided by our vision that creating art compliments medical therapies.

As a 501c3 organization with 38 years of experience, We Care Arts increases confidence and artistic skill in a variety of individuals with varying disabilities and physical challenges. Our founder Terry Schalnat began in 1983, changing disabilities into possibilities in the basement of a recreation center.

Since then, We Care Arts has grown to serve 1400 clients at more than forty off-site locations within the greater Dayton area. Alongside our executive director, our volunteer staff and board contribute more than 28,000 hours annually to our mission.
